Sugahill Gang (1973-2007)
This is a rap music group that formed in 1973. They are most noted for their song "Rapper's Delight" which was the first rap single to become a top 40 single.
Run-D.M.C. (1981-2002)
Run DMC is composed of two members "Rev. Run" and "DMC". They are considered one of the most influential groups to do it. They have a Rap-Rock style which you can hear during man of their song like, "King of Rock", and "It's Tricky". After the group split up Rev. Run became a producer and even had a reality tv show that showed his family and what he is doing now a days that the group is over.
Boogie Down Productions (1985-1992)
Boogie Down Productions is a group of 3 people, KRS-one, D-Nice, and DJ Scott La Rock. They are one of the first groups that had more of a political style. After the group was finished KRS-One continued his Hip Hop career by going solo and went on the make 15 studio albums and is still making music to this day.
The Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff (1985-1994)
Before Coming a famous actor Will Smith was in a duo hip hop group with DJ Jazzy Jeff. They have only one song that still plays on the radio which is "Summertime" which you can hear every summer on the radio. In the show "The fresh Prince of Bel-Air" DJ Jazzy Jeff makes multiple appearances. The theme song to the show is also made by them.
Slick Rick (1982-Present)
Slick Rick started his career in 1983 and made man iconic tracks that people still listen to now, such as "Children's Story", "La Di Da Di" He is known for narrating his own raps and is considered one of raps greatest storytellers. Because of this his is considered one of the greatest lyricist of all time.
N.W.A (1986-1991)

N.W.A is considered to be one of the most important groups is Hip-Hops history. At the time no one had put out lyrics like they did. They endured controversy do to their explicit lyrics that that have never been done before. Due to their lyrics they were banned by many radio stations. Although they were shunned by the mainstream radio stations they sold 10 million copies in the United States alone. They used this controversy to fuel their music. After their first album Ice Cube left the group to pursue his solo music career. Although N.W.A. did not last very long they are considered legendary and will go down in history. N.W.A. Started off Ice Cube and Dr. Dre's solo careers. They went on to do bug thing and that would not haven't happened if they did not form N.W.A.
The 80's was the spark to a new genre called Hip-Hop. Now these are just a few of the many great artists during the 80's that sparked this movement. The artists i included on this page are some of the more influencial rappers that changed the game forever and will be remembered forever and will go down in history.
